In this paper we describe the track setup, the evaluation methodology and the participation in the diﬀerent tasks (Section 2) and present the main characteristics of the experiments and show the results (Sections 3 - 5). The ﬁnal section provides a brief summing up. For information on the various approaches and resources used by the groups participating in this track and the issues they focused on, we refer the reader to the other papers in this section of the proceedings. 2 Track Setup The ad hoc track in CLEF adopts a corpus-based, automatic scoring method for the assessment of system performance, based on ideas ﬁrst introduced in the Cranﬁeld experiments  in the late 1960s.
